Shiatsu

Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese massage therapy following similar principals as acupuncture by working on a system of energy channels or ‘meridians’, each connecting with an organ. Pressure is applied by using thumbs, palms and elbows; there are also gentle stretching techniques to stimulate the meridians and re-balance energy (‘Ki’ in Japanese) giving a sense of well being.

Shiatsu Facial

A Shiatsu Facial is very relaxing! Pressure is applied with or without oil on acupressure points and massage techniques to tone the muscles — naturally rejuvenating the facial muscles and improving the texture and appearance of the skin.

The effects of Shiatsu

Shiatsu can offer effective relaxing treatments, specifically tailored to your own needs, which can help a wide-range of conditions — from specific injuries or health problems to more general symptoms.

Continual stress leads to pain and illness. Shiatsu treatment relieves muscle tension and can aid joint mobility, which significantly improves posture. It promotes relaxation, bringing relief from tensions, improves your mood; aids sleep, and boosts energy levels. Therefore, Shiatsu is effective on all levels — mind, body, lifting our spirits and sense of well being with a positive attitude.

I have seen clients for many years with physical and emotional stress problems and Shiatsu has been effective in resolving them.

If you have any health problems or concerns Josephine would be happy to discuss these with you on 01202 739 868 or 078 50 477 287.

Consultation & Treatment

After an initial consultation, the treatment will be carried out on a low couch. Where conditions make this difficult, e.g., poor health, injuries, disabilities and the elderly, patients can be treated in a chair. If required arrangements can be made for home visits.

Please bring or wear loose clothing (preferably natural fibres), for example, jogging trousers and a T-shirt, and in winter an additional sweat shirt or light woolen jumper can be worn. Also please avoid eating for at least one hour before your therapy.

How many treatments?

The number of treatments varies from person to person. One session maybe adequate but for optimum benefit two or more sessions maybe required. This can be discussed after the initial session. Even when a condition improves many people continue with regular treatments — making a real difference to the quality their life.

Professional Qualifications

The Shiatsu Society (UK) was set up in 1981 to facilitate communication within the field of Shiatsu to inform the public of the benefit of this form of treatment. Since then the society has grown to form a network linking interested individuals, students and teachers, and additionally to fulfil the role of a professional association for practitioners of Shiatsu. Josephine is a member of this society and a qualified practitioner and teacher.

Shiatsu Society Registered Practitioners MRSS(T) have all achieved an approved standard of training as established by the society's assessment panel and are bound by the Code of Ethics. All have Professional Indemnity Insurance.
